Collies available for adoption!

Tegan

Tegan is almost 3 years old and a wonderful, devoted Collie.  He is a tricolor collie whose relinquishing owner had to move.  He had Tegan micro-chipped, neutered, and his shots are up to date.

Tegan’s former owners filled out a shelter animal profile when they turned him over to the Contra Costa Animal Services in Martinez. Tegan loves to be brushed, herds, likes kid and cats. He is a young collie who plays well with our own collies, but believes the world revolves around himself. He is a very smart young collie.

Tegan is a very adventuresome collie and is very vocal, he really has a lot to say. He is very vocal both inside the house as well as outside and barks a lot. He is a very happy young collie and loves to play "chuck-it" because he loves to run. He barks at the recycle can when I roll it up the driveway and is learning to play more gently with our collies. Tegan is very heathly and is heart worm negative. Updated 06.19.2009

If you feel that you have the right forever home (in Northern California) for Tegan, please send an e-mail with an attached application to Billie at: billie@calcollierescue.org.  I look forward to hearing from you.

Darcy and Boomer

These two affectionate, people-loving 6-year old dogs came into rescue by way of utter tragic circumstances. Their single owner, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. Her good friend and neighbor, along with her brother, took care of Darcy and Boomer temporarily and contacted us. The whole situation was completely devastating to all concerned and everyone was in shock, including the dogs, who were confused and depressed at first.

Other than being overweight and matted, they are normal, healthy Collies, who are house-trained, walk well on a leash, ride great in the car, and want to be with their people more than anything else. They sit, lie down, and give you a paw on cue, and are quick to learn new things. Darcy and Boomer really love to play fetch, although Boomer cheats by grabbing Darcy's collar when he gets excited, and it doesn't take much to get him excited. They have recently been to a professional groomer and are looking splendid in their clean and fresh-smelling fur coats.

Darcy is extremely agile (up and down steep concreted stairs like they are nothing) and food motivated. In fact, she has shown some resource-guarding around food with dogs other than Boomer, with whom she gets along very well. However, that being said, when in a room with Boomer by her side, she takes treats gently and is anxious to show all the tricks she can do.

Boomer is a HUGE, goofy, and enthusiastic guy who just adores attention. He clacks his teeth when taking a treat, but is gentle about it and anxious to please. He plays well with Darcy, but can be a little over-powering sometimes just because of his size. None-the-less, she runs the show. He is a big Mamma’s boy and has some separation anxiety when his littermate-sister Darcy is away from him. This behavior can be improved with positive reinforcement training.

Because these two are littermates and a bonded pair, we really need to adopt them together, and to a home most likely with no other dog, no cats, and at this point, we are unsure about small children. Updated 6.30.2009

Darcy and Boomer are VERY easy to become attached to and will make wonderful pets. They are admired by everyone in their foster family's neighborhood. If you would like to give them a forever home (in Northern California), please fill out an application and e-mail it to: andrea@calcollierescue.org.

Important information for prospective adopters!  Please read!

All prospective adopters should fill out an adoption application as soon as possible, so that we can your home check done and get you on the waiting list.  Refer to our adoption checklist to see you through the adoption procedure.  Find out more about adoptions on our adoption information page Evaluation hold means that a dog is not yet available for adoption, pending further evaluation perhaps for behavioral or medical reasons.  Adoption pending means that the dog is in the process of being adopted but not yet signed over and delivered to the adopting home.

NCR reserves the right to refuse adoption to anyone, if for any reason an area coordinator feels that a particular collie, or any collie, is not suitable for a  prospective home.  NCR will not adopt collies out of our area of coverage, which is northern California.  Some area coordinators will not place a collie too far to be able to support the adoption. NCR does collaborate with collie rescue organizations adjacent to our area of coverage:  Southland Collie Rescue and Cascade Collie Rescue.

Adoption fees are prorated by the age & condition of the dog.

See our adoption information page for a schedule of adoption fees.
